O coqueiro
Penha de Franca - Goa
O Coqueiro, located in Alto Porvorim, Goa is a famous destination to taste authentic Goan Portuguese food. Just as Goan dishes have coconut as a crucial ingredient, the term Ö Coqueiro translates from Portuguese as “Çoconot Tree”. The restaurant flaunts an exquisite Portuguese architecture and is a proud receiver of the International excellence award in Cuisine, presented by the International Wine & Food society.
The restaurant started as a small-scale eating joint back in 1968 with a decent Goan fare, which rose to fame by Chef Gines Viegas, from East Africa. It is accredited for serving the first of its kind Chicken Cafreal - a spicy green Goan curry. The cuisines adopted here are majorly Goan, Portuguese, Indian and Seafood. O Coqueiro’s signature dishes are the Chicken Xacuti - chicken cooked in specially roasted coconut gravy, Chicken Cafreal - sides best with the Goan Bread, Pomfret Recheado - Pomfret Stuffed with rachead masala, Prawn curry - Prawns cooked in traditional Goan spices & coconut based gravy served with rice, Beef tongue baffad - cooked in traditional Goan masala and Stuffed crab - spiced crab meat stuffed in their shells.
