Circuits in Session: How AI Challenges Traditional Appellate Dynamics

This article describes an experiment using OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4 to do appellate work, usually considered the most intellectually challenging area of the law. My hypothesis was that AI was already capable of acting as an appellate judge in some cases. Based on the growing concern about the politicization and quality of some appellate judges, especially those who sit on our highest court, this research was a priority. The results are encouraging….
